The family of 22-year-old Drexel senior Evan Morris is urging police to continue the investigation of their son’s death, saying he may have been “set up,” the Daily News reports today.

Morris was stabbed three times early Friday morning in his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on the 3400 block of Race Street and later died. Police have said that the man who stabbed him, an unnamed student from another university, acted in self defense and that charges would likely not be filed in the case.

But Morris’ parents have hired an attorney, Willie Nattiel Jr., who told the Daily News:

“We believe that there is much more involved with this. We don’t like that he was being portrayed as this crazed burglar.”

Nattiel even speculated that Morris may have been “set up.”

A Drexel University police car remained outside 3414 Race St. late this morning. A Drexel student was found stabbed to death earlier today.

A 22-year-old Drexel University student was found stabbed to death in an apartment near campus that he may have broken into early this morning, according to police.

The student, senior Evan Morris, was found with multiple stab wounds in the body and head at about 5 a.m. in an apartment on the 3400 block of Race Street, according to reports. The block borders the Drexel campus. He was later pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

More on the stabbings at West Philly El stop

Posted on 15 January 2011 by Mike Lyons

The Inquirer has a fairly in-depth story today about the fight on Friday morning at the 46th Street El stop that left six West Philadelphia high school students, most of them college-bound, with injuries. The fight had been brewing for some time, the paper reports, and officials at both West Catholic and Boys Latin have met with their respective student bodies to call for an end to the violence.

The Inquirer quotes Boys Latin Chief Executive Officer David P. Hardy as telling juniors and seniors at his school:

“Anyone at this school who retaliates will be expelled. This is over,” he said. “Think about your future. . . . You don’t want to throw that away.”

Posted on 14 January 2011 by Mike Lyons

Several news outlets are reporting that six students were stabbed near the El stop at 46th and Market Streets this morning. The teens reportedly got into a fight at the train station.

The students were taken to hospital but the injuries are reportedly not life threatening. Five of the students were from Boys Latin High School and the sixth was reportedly a student at nearby West Philadelphia Catholic High School, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Inquirer interviewed Byron Pugh, who runs a CD stand at the El station and said the fights between students are a regular occurrence.

Incidentally, the Inquirer story concludes that while police were investigating the stabbings a man robbed the nearby CVS at 48th and Market.
