Once again, we received some great entries in our annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Thank you to everyone who participated, and now it’s time to vote for your favorite pumpkin. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. The Readers’ Choice winner, who will receive our grand prize, and winners in other categories (Scariest, Funniest, Best Philly-Themed, and Kids) will be announced on November 3.

Palms Solutions – the African Diaspora Global Initiative – in collaboration with the Friends of Clark Park (FOCP) and the Mayor’s Commission on African & Caribbean Immigrant Affairs, is hosting the kick off of its annual “West Philly African & Caribbean Multicultural Festival (Westpac Fest)” event at Clark Park (43rd and Baltimore) on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2-6 p.m. The kick-off event features Ethiopia and Mali. The celebration is an opportunity to experience Philadelphia’s vibrant and growing African and Caribbean immigrant population.
According to the event organizers, the goal of WestPac Fest is to “break down the cultural and ethnic barriers among communities in West Philly, promote a friendly, and welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds, and together build a place where diversity is recognized and valued.”
This year‘s celebration is a tribute to the late Ms. Frances P. Aulston, President and CEO of the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Paul Robeson House, who played a big role in the preservation of the last residence of Paul Robeson, a legendary artist, scholar, athlete, activist, and humanitarian. And now, it’s time to vote for your favorite pumpkin! All the entries are below. Please choose your favorite and cast your vote at the bottom of this post (please only one vote per person).
Just a reminder that the Readers’ Choice winner will receive our grand prize, which includes some great food and entertainment offers: a $40 gift card from Sabrina’s Cafe, a $40 gift certificate from Cafe Renata, a 3-month membership to International House Philadelphia, and Curio Theatre tickets. In addition to these prizes, a Readers’ Choice winner can also select one prize from the following businesses: Mariposa Food Coop, VIX Emporium, Honest Tom’s Taco Shop, and Rx The Farmacy.
Voting will end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 and the Readers’ Choice winner and winners in other categories (Scariest, Funniest, best Philly-themed, and Kids) and their prizes will be announced shortly after that. This year, to encourage participation, we’ll also have a random drawing among the entries that didn’t win in any other category.
It’s time to sharpen your knives and start carving those pumpkins as West Philly Local’s 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest has opened today. We are accepting photos of your pumpkins through October 29. Please follow this link to read more about the contest and how to enter it.

On Monday we’ll announce winners in the Scariest, Funniest, Philly-themed, and Kids categories, which will be decided by a crack panel of judges.
