HopePHL’s inaugural Program Fair connects families, youth, community members with vital programs and services

Posted on 03 April 2023 by WestPhillyLocal.com

HopePHL’s first community Program Fair, held on March 29, was a “resounding success,” according to the organizers, and connected Philadelphia youth, families and community members with vital programs and services. The fair showcased all the programs and teams from People’s Emergency Center and Youth Service, Inc. now available from one organization. People of all ages and backgrounds learned about the different programs available, asked questions, and enrolled in programs on the spot.

More than 100 guests attended the event. The fair featured 17 programs for different needs, like computer classes, family reunification, youth emergency shelter, and supports for families experiencing homelessness. Attendees had the chance to meet the teams behind the programs, win special prizes, and enjoy snacks and fun – including an ice sculpting demonstration from West Philly’s own Ice Sculpture Philadelphia. In an effort to assess fair housing options in Philadelphia neighborhoods, the City’s Division of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has released a housing and neighborhood survey – Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH).

The AFH survey, which is in partnership with the Urban Institute and Reinvestment Fund, will assess how Philadelphians feel about their current housing, community and housing options. The results of the survey will be used to help shape Philadelphia’s housing and neighborhood investment plans.

Posted on 09 November 2016 by WestPhillyLocal.com

malcolm-x-park-lypflier-550x711This year’s LOVE Your Park Fall Service Day, an event organized by Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Hundreds of volunteers will step out to clean up their neighborhood parks and help prepare them for winter. We’re happy to let you know that West Philly’s Malcolm X Park, located at 52nd and Pine, will be this year’s signature “LOVE Your Park” site.

Mayor Kenney and other dignitaries will be present at the park on Saturday to show support to the volunteers, including Gregorio Cojulun Jr., the President of the Malcolm X Park Friends group.

Gregorio has been a member of the Malcolm X Park Friends since 1996, and has been its president since 1997. He is credited with helping to rid the park of crime and bring it back to life through his ability to motivate neighbors to get involved in the programming and stewardship of the park.  Continue Reading
