This Year at Repair The World, we’ve hosted events about a range of food-justice related topics, from the nutritional guidelines of the National School Lunch Program to the Public Health implications of the recently passed Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Tax. For our last food justice event of the summer, we would like to focus our attention on food waste. In the United States, according to the WRI, 30-40% of the food supply is wasted (equal to more than 20 pounds of food per person per month), and, according to the EPA, over 97% of all organic waste ends up in landfills. In response to startling statistics like these, we are hosting Repair the World Presents: Food Waste in Philly.

Please join us on July 5th, from 6pm-8pm at our workshop (4029 Market Street) for an informative gathering about food waste. The first part of the event will consist of educational programming, including a presentation by Seth Budick of the Dirt Factory about composting. Following, everyone is invited to take part in a game of waste-themed quizzo, with free alcoholic drinks (2 max), snacks, and prizes! Come with your team already assembled or make a team with some new friends at the event!

While many statistics about waste may be daunting, one of the key messages we would like to convey through this event is the opportunity we all have to reduce our own waste and advocate for more sustainable practices. We hope that you’ll join us in exploring this important issue.

*The event is 18 to enter and anyone 21 or older must present an ID in order to drink*
