dir. Atom Egoyan, USA, 2015, 95 mins.

A complex and riveting edge-of-your-seat thriller, director Atom Egoyan’s Remember is the story of two elderly Holocaust survivors determined to get revenge on the sadistic guard who tormented them at Auschwitz.

Each time Zev (Christopher Plummer) awakens in his nursing home bed, he calls out his wife’s name, forgetting that she had died weeks earlier. But even as the 90-year-old Zev’s memory continues to fail, his wheelchair-bound old friend Max (Martin Landau) reminds him of their plans in a meticulous set of instructions he prepares for Zev’s journey. As Zev embarks on an astonishing North American road trip in search of the Rudy Kolander, Remember becomes an intense and powerful meditation on guilt, victimhood, and revenge, with an explosive ending that viewers will long remember.

“Egoyan parcels out the story carefully, building tension to an explosive climax. The thrills come with the search, but Remember’s main buzz comes from Plummer’s heartfelt and assured performance as a man struggling to reconcile the past with the present.” – Richard Crouse/ Canada AM
