The 2018 season of Performances in Public Spaces presents, Fortunate Explorers Jazz Collective. The Fortunate Explorers create unique jazz compositions, blending into their live performances exotic harmonies and melodies, spontaneous improvisations, and global rhythms.

Fortunate Explorers Jazz Collective is an original jazz ensemble that features local Philadelphia Jazz artists, including famed alto saxophonist and CIMP recording artist Bobby Zankel, University of the Arts professor Matt Davis, and other unique original exploratory jazz musicians. This ensemble honors original music that has been derived from the music theories of renowned Philadelphia composers like Dennis Sandole, Vincent Persichetti, George Crumb, and Samuel Barber.

From June through October, the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) presents Performances in Public Spaces, a free series of family-friendly, cultural performances in parks and plazas throughout Philadelphia neighborhoods. The series is part of OACCE’s Arts in Action initiative that regularly brings quality arts programming to communities across Philadelphia and supports local, creative talent.
