In conjunction with her art show at Metropolitan Bakery (located at 40th and Walnut) that will be up on October 13th,  Mexican-American artist Karina Puente will teach a special workshop at UCAL on October 22nd. In this workshop you will learn to design and hand cut powerful messages using techniques found in the traditional Mexican folk art called, Papel Picado. The results? Colorful works of positive political activism just in time for the 2016 presidential election. Attendees will collaborate and cut designs into larger-than-life Papel Picado that will hang adjacent to University City Arts League. Arts educators, artists, paper cutters, Latinxs, PoC, activists, Papel Picado aficionados, change makers and everyone in between is welcome!

Join us for a fun intersection of artistic expression, cultural preservation, and political agency!

Master class registration is limited to 12 participants, so register soon to reserve your spot. There will also be a drop-in papel making activity happening alongside the master class that will be led by UCAL staff. This drop-in class does not require registration but can only accommodate 10 participants at a time.

Registration is sliding scale $0-$20, any donations are appreciated!
