CraftNOW’s 2020 symposium ”Cultures of Making,” organized in collaboration with Techné – the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s affinity group which explores and celebrates international craft — is a signature event of Philadelphia’s CraftMONTH and will be hosted virtually and free to the public, giving national and international audiences unprecedented access to explore Philadelphia’s innovations in craft. The two-day symposium will include talks and moderated discussions inspired by the recent publications Craft Capital: Philadelphia’s Cultures of Making, and Crafting Dissent: Handicraft as Protest from the American Revolution to the Pussyhats, This year’s keynote speakers, author, editor, and filmmaker Hinda Mandell, and Vashti Dubois, executive director of The Colored Girls Museum in Philadelphia, will be central to each day’s discussion, as they challenge attendees to think about craft as a tool for provocation and exchange.

This event will be held virtually.
