The Gallery at the University City Arts League
October 21st– November 18th 2016
Opening October 21st 6-8pm
Baked Goods brings together the work of a diverse group of contemporary artists all engaged with themes of food and the meal. Variations on the theme run from the playful, in LA based artist Trina Turturici’s colorful Mojito, to the satirical, as in Joshua Marsh’s coupon series which humorously comment on mass consumption and marketing, to the personal, as in Polina Barskaya’s meal paintings from photographs of family memories of a childhood in Ukraine. Food plays an important role in our visual lives. Philadelphia artists Adam Lovitz and Aubrey Levinthal organized this show to echo the multi-sensory experience that is eating. While a wide variety of materials and aesthetics are explored, the work is consistent in its rich, joyous delight for the senses.
