Art Club at Christy Rec Center

Join us on Wednesday April 17th from 5:30-7:30pm. We’ll be hosting our second workshop focused on designing asphalt paintings and interactive installations for 4 locations along the Cobbs Creek path on 63rd street. Design and share your ideas for 4 new public art installations.

Futures Without Guns

A multimedia speculative art exhibition featuring the work of nine artists exploring alternate futures free from the shadow of gun violence. Rooted in the principles of futures thinking and speculative design, Futures Without Guns invites visitors to embark on a journey through diverse artistic perspectives and tap into their innate creativity to envision a future where the threat of gun violence is a distant memory. Futures Without Guns is a call to action that unites us in our collective determination to actively shape a brighter future.

Maimouna Youssef, also known as Mumu Fresh, is the critically acclaimed Afro-Indigenous singer, Emcee, songwriter, activist, workshop facilitator and audio engineer who’s been called a “quadruple threat” by The Roots’ Black Thought and “groundbreaking” by Oscar-winning artist, Common. With her expansive musical background ranging from Jazz, Gospel, Spirituals, traditional African & traditional Indigenous music, to Hip Hop (also celebrating 50 years!), Soul, rock and experimental acapella fusion, this concert is a multi-genre live music event not to miss. Plus, Maimouna is 23/24 artist-in-residence for Anthems for the Anthropocene, the climate change songwriting context presented by Drexel Climate & Sustainability.

BalletX Festival at the Mann

BalletX returns to TD Pavilion at the Mann for two extraordinary nights of dance and live music! Experience world premiere choreography by Natasha Adorlee with live music by Jac Ross, the Philadelphia premiere of Takehiro Ueyama’s Heroes (2019) with live music by Kato Hideki, and the return of Jamar Roberts’ Eros & Psyche (2023), featuring a Philip Glass score performed live by ensemble132.

Movement and Memory 2024: DIVERSITY PD Community Event!

DIVERSITY PD is excited to host a FREE event designed for families of color living in the Philadelphia region to learn about and navigate a diagnosis of Parkinson’s or cognitive challenges. Movement disorder specialists, experts in memory and cognition, social workers, rehab professionals and faith-based and community advocates will facilitate community conversations while providing resources, education and information. The event is made possible through the generous support from the Davis Phinney Foundation.

 While we welcome everyone, we are specifically interested in providing information and resources to communities that have been under-resourced, under-represented and under-diagnosed. Please note that space is limited and priority will be given to families currently living with Parkinson’s or memory disorders.

DIVERSITY PD is a collaborative effort led by The Parkinson Council which includes providers and partners from Penn, Jefferson, Cooper, Temple, the Department of Veterans Affairs (PADRECC), Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church Abington. The goal of our 4-year collaboration is to ensure that people of color have a barrier-free pathway to high-quality Parkinson’s care and services in the Philadelphia region.

Sonic Bloom: A Floral Design Workshop

Sonic Bloom is a floral design workshop where participants learn how to create a sculptural centerpiece through the activation of creative neurotransmitters. Attendees will be guided through design techniques along with sensory exercises intended to stimulate the mind and provide a tool set for noticing the world in a new way. Whether you are an artist who is interested in floral design or simply someone who would like to learn more about how to arrange flowers artistically, Flower Clvb welcomes you to join.

These workshops will take place at the Flower Clvb studio in the Spruce Hill neighborhood of West Philadelphia.

Sessions will be limited to 6 guests in order to enhance the experience for each individual. Each participant will walk away with a design education, centerpiece with an Accent Decor vase, pair of clippers and a special gift related to one of the sensory elements conducted at the workshop.

Multiple Sonic Bloom events will occur every year and no two will be alike. Depending on the seasons, each session will remain unique.

Sonic Bloom events are led and taught by Grace McDonald who has had over fifteen years of experience designing flowers and working in arts education across Pennsylvania, New York and Texas.

Penn State Master Gardeners of Philadelphia County Plant Sale

Join us on Sunday, April 28 from 10am – 2pm for our annual Garden Day & Plant Sale! We will be selling a variety of affordable seedlings and native plants with beautiful blooms. Prices range from $4.00 for vegetable starter plants to $30 for well-established, exotic house plants. Choose from 100s of varieties of unique veggies, herbs, native plants, and pollinators for all kinds of light and moisture conditions. All plants have been carefully cultivated by Penn State Master Gardeners and proceeds support our educational programs.

Philadelphia Master Gardeners will also host garden tours and gardening workshops & demonstrations throughout the day–there’s something for everyone. This is an outdoor event and will be held rain or shine!

BioBlitz at The Woodlands

Join us for an exciting BioBlitz on April 28th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at The Woodlands during the 2024 City Nature Challenge where people from all over the world collaborate to document wildlife in their city!

In partnership with The WoodlandsPhiladelphia Mycology ClubCity Nature Challenge and Feminist Bird Club participants will use the app iNaturalist to explore the biodiversity of The Woodlands (an incredible green space located in West Philadelphia) all while participating in community science! Community science data collected through iNaturalist observations is key to help monitor urban biodiversity health.

Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a curious beginner, all are welcome to participate in this accessible, engaging, educational experience.
