The Rotunda hosting a West Philly community arts project, tax workshop for artists

January 23, 2019

rotundaWest Philly artists are invited to The Rotunda (40th and Walnut) for a couple of events this month – a planning meeting for a community arts project, and a tax workshop.

The community arts project, “When I am the Princess,” will take place on Saturday, March 9 when artists will have the opportunity to read, sing, perform, dance, show and/or exhibit at The Rotunda. The first planning meeting for the project will be this Saturday, Jan. 26, 2:00-3:30 p.m. (the second meeting is on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2:00-3:30 p.m.).

The goal of this project is to think about how we are being programmed by concepts like The Princess, and how people of various, especially non-European and non-Western backgrounds feel about it. How does the princess archetype shape gender roles, and where do boys, men, and non binary people fit in? These and other questions are something to think about before the planning meetings (you do not have to attend both). More information and questions can be found here.

The project is open to everyone and will be a group-curated event.

There will also be a tax workshop at The Rotunda on Monday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m.

This free event is part of the Vision Driven Artists workshop series by Vision Driven Consulting, which brings resources and workshops to self-producing artists/musicians, arts organization staff, and event curators in all disciplines.

This month’s topic is Tax for Artists and will include the following information:

• Learn about which expenses you can deduct on your taxes
• Find out how and when to send out 1099s
• Get your individual questions answered
• Special Guest: Christianne Kapps, a board member and treasurer for Spiral Q Puppet Theater.

No sign-up is necessary and refreshments will be provided. For more upcoming free workshops for artists, go here.
