Spruce Hill Zoning: Developers eye Millcreek Tavern; Mission First to explain impending sale of Arvilla Apartments near 45th and Osage

December 16, 2018

Community residents will have a chance to learn more about two development proposals during a Spruce Hill Community Association Zoning Committee meeting on Monday, Dec. 17, including the proposed sale of an affordable housing building.

The two main agenda items are:

7 p.m.: A development proposal to replace Millcreek Tavern at 42nd and Chester with residential housing will be discussed. This is not an official zoning meeting, just a presentation of intent with an opportunity for neighbors to offer comments and ask questions.

7:30 p.m.: Mission First Housing Group, the non-profit affordable housing developer that owns the 16-unit Arvilla apartment building on the 4500 block of Osage, will explain how it conducts its operations and how its current model led to the controversial decision to sell the low-income housing building.

The impending sale of the Arvilla building, which was built in the 1940s, has frustrated tenants and neighbors. Mission First has said that it will help to relocate current tenants. This will be an opportunity for the organization to “clear the air” and to have neighbors and residents ask questions and offer comments, according to a zoning committee meeting notice.

All interested neighbors and residents are invited to attend the Monday session, which will take place at the SHCA office at 257 S. 45th Street (near 45th and Spruce).
