Join your neighbors for Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 14 (updated)

April 5, 2018

UPDATE (April 5, 2018): Due to snow in the forecast for Saturday, April 7, the 11th Annual Philly Spring Cleanup has been postponed until next Saturday, April 14.

cleanupThe 11th Annual Philly Spring Cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 14, and residents are encouraged to join local community efforts at cleaning and beautifying neighborhood parks, streets and empty lots. There are numerous cleanup sites in West Philly; please visit www.phillyspringcleanup.com to find a site near you and register.

Also check out these cleanup projects hosted by local organizations:

• From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., join Cedar Park Neighbors in a spring cleanup at Cedar Park (49th and Baltimore). It’s time to get back outdoors and wake up the gardens! CPN will be doing general clean out and prep of gardens for planting. No experience is necessary, and tools will be provided. All are welcome, and it’s kid friendly! As a bonus, Dock Street Brewery is offering volunteers a special deal. For more info and to RSVP, go here: www.facebook.com/events/416760625418190/

• Help keep your neighborhood clean by joining a community cleanup on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.. University City District is partnering with the City of Philadelphia to assist block captains, students, volunteer groups and neighbors by providing trash bags, brooms, work gloves, and trash pickup. To sign up and join the effort, please contact UCD via email (cleanandsafe@universitycity.org) or by calling 215-243-0555.

Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is inviting the neighborhood to come together and tidy up the lot in front of their Soul of the Black Bottom mural. In November 2017, the organization hosted world renowned muralist eL Seed to complete a residency as part of the (DIS)PLACED Philadelphia project. While the mural adds a bright and friendly touch, the lot in front is unfortunately not. It has essentially been a dumping ground of sorts that makes it unsafe and not usable for the surrounding families and kids. If you’re interested and available to volunteer (9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.), please sign up here. Water, snacks and music will be provided!

• Come out and help beautify the neighborhood with the 18th District Community Townwatch from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.. We will clean the streets, alleys, and vacant lots. Cleaning materials will be provided. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, gloves and light refreshments. Please contact Shirley Pickens at 267-973-4025 to register.
