SEPTA News: Fares to increase July 1; TransPass sales phase-out begins; Trolley Tunnel to be closed Sunday

We have compiled a few important announcements released by SEPTA in the past week:

SEPTA Fares to Increase July 1, 2017

The SEPTA Board approved fare changes for Fiscal Year 2018, including modest increases across all modes of travel and methods of payment. SEPTA’s Fiscal Year 2018 begins July 1, 2017, and here is a summary of changes to some of the most widely used fare payment methods (full details can be found here):

• Cash Fare/Quick Trip: Increase from $2.25 to $2.50
• Discounted single ride with SEPTA Key Travel Wallet/Token: From $1.80 to $2
• Disabled Fare: From $1 to $1.25
• Paratransit/Shared Ride: $4 to $4.25
• Weekly TransPass: From $24 to $25.50 (up to 56 trips for one customer) 
• Monthly TransPass: From $91 to $96 (up to 240 trips for one customer)
• Weekly TrailPasses: Currently $27.25-$53, depending on zone; Increase to $28.25-$55.75 (up to 56 trips for one customer)
• Monthly TrailPasses: Currently $101-$191, depending on zone; Increase to $105-$204 (up to 240 trips for one customer)
• Convenience Pass: From $8 to $9
• Independence Pass: Individual – $12 to $13; Family – $29 to $30

TransPass Phase-Out Begins

With over 100,000 Key cards now in circulation, SEPTA has started phasing out sales of legacy magnetic-stripe Weekly/Monthly TransPasses and One-Day Convenience Passes. Starting June 1, all customers purchasing these transit passes at SEPTA sales locations will receive them on a reloadable SEPTA Key card. All other fare products, including tokens and Regional Rail TrailPasses, will continue to be sold at SEPTA sales offices after June 1 until further notice.

Center City Trolley Tunnel Closure

Due to construction and maintenance projects, SEPTA’s Center City Trolley Tunnel will be closed from 5 a.m., Sunday, June 4 until 5 a.m., Monday, June 5. During the closure, trolley routes 11, 13, 34 and 36 will pick up and drop off passengers at 40th and Market Streets. Route 10 will pick up and drop off passengers at 40th and Filbert Streets. All trolley passengers should use the Market-Frankford Line for travel between 40th Street Station and Center City.

Trolleys will resume regular service through the tunnel at 5 a.m., Monday, June 5.
