Free public forum on Islamophobia this Thursday at Penn Museum

February 22, 2017

Reza Aslan

Internationally renowned Iranian-American writer and religious scholar Reza Aslan will address racism and discrimination against Muslim people in America during a talk on Thursday, Feb. 23. The talk is part of the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts & Sciences’ Levin Family Dean’s public forum, “Fear Inc.: Confronting Islamophobia in America,” which will be held at the Penn Museum.

The forum is free and open to the public.

Since West Philadelphia is home to thousands of Muslims people, this forum is a great opportunity to learn more about this religion and misconceptions about it, in order to understand better our Muslim neighbors.

Aslan is the author of the New York Times bestseller Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth and of No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam, which was named by Blackwell Publishers as one of the 100 most important books of the last decade. He’s also a member of many prominent foreign relations and policy councils and will be the host of “Believer”, CNN’s new show on world religions.

The forum will be held at Penn Museum’s Harrison Auditorium, 3620 South St., starting at 4:30 p.m. (doors open at 4).

I wish you’d published this earlier. 6-8 hours’ notice is not enough to plan for getting to an afternoon event if you have anything else on your schedule, or even your maybe list.

too bad – this guy is a good speaker and worth seeing. those who can go would do themselves well to attend!

Dr.Whom – the article was published yesterday. It says the published date beneath the title.

I would prefer to hear Sam Harris discuss the topic.

Does anyone know if this talk is available online? I’d really like to hear more about Islam. I know Islam oppresses women, is intolerant of all religions and irreligion, is homophobic, and is not compatible with democracy. What are the misconceptions?

@Gordon: Oops, you’re right. I should have noticed that.
