Insta-housing: New modular building goes up along Sansom Street

March 8, 2016

pre-fab 1

Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell was at a building site at the corner of Farragut and Sansom this morning as a modular apartment building was being dropped into place.

Another pre-fab, modular apartment building is going up along Sansom Street. This one is behind the Sunoco at Sansom and Farragut.

Even Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell was on hand when they started dropping the pieces in place on Tuesday morning.

The building’s units were dropped in one by one by a crane parked along Farragut Street.

The site owner is Sansom Street Development LP, which “dropped” a similar 3-story building on the southwest corner of 46th and Sansom Streets last spring.

Above, workers prepare one of the apartment building modules to be installed. Below, more parts of the building in the vacant lot across from the 46th Street SEPTA stop.

Anonymous is correct, AmericanWoman. Your source is not up-to-date, and somewhat confused. Those nominal amounts are old transfers to the city’s Redevelopment Authority when it acquired the properties through condemnation. Your website lists the old prices, but new owner. Try https://alpha.phila.gov/property .

  4. Anonymous Says:

Yes, if a question needs to be asked, it should be whether they should have paid more than $229,500 for the bundled properties and if the city had higher offers.

Any fire walls between these stacked trailer park units? Scary place to live if not. Where will all the people park their cars?

  6. Glenn Mancini Says:

This is all wrong. This development does not match the existing architecture in any way shape or form. Does anyone see colonial building is West Philadelphia? So why do I see new buildings built in 2016 with colonial windows in a neighborhood of primarily VIctorian and later architecture. The colonial era ended in the late 1700’s. This is a major problem throughout the city cheap random development with no oversight regarding historical continuity. End result, a mishmash of building style gradually destroying the historical character of the neighborhood.

THE ENTERPRISE CENTER did this deal Regardless of the communities desire for a green space. I know first hand staff at the ENTERPRISE CENETR lied to the community about their intentions.
I have to ask how does a 501c3 NFP get to give out interest baring loans?
And when is it ok to STACK the board of directors? Each service has the same 5 people in charge.
Alas this is the FATTAH legacy and BLACKWELLS continued screwing of west philadelphia.

  8. sicofcorruption Says:

ALSO the loan deal with sansom street developement LP and The enterprise center….. SHADEY!!!!!!!!!! As a former underwriter in the mortgage industry I can say the paperwork was in my opinion fudged.
I hope the feds are watching, I see another arrest coming down the line.
I for one reported them to the IRS lets see what apathy they display.
Also BLACKWELL doesn’t show up for a development with press in tow for her publicity photo op unless she has a hand in it…

These properties were taken from private owners when the city decided that building over mill creek was not safe…
