Fuuuuuck. I feel so bad for that guy. We live HALF A BLOCK from where this happened and were looking for parking when police first got to him. Sadly our first thoughts were not “mugging victim”.. but more like “crazy drunk”. I feel terrible saying that, but until I saw this post, we didn’t know.

I hope the guy is okay.
THIS IS JUST A BLOCK AWAY FROM ME!!! 🙁

not that he should’ve been stabbed, of course not! But was it really worth it to fight for his wallet? Just give the person your wallet and save your life.

@Jay: I see your point, but I think none of us knows what we’d do in that situation ’til we’re (god forbid) in it. Anger kicks in, fear kicks in, adrenaline kicks in, whatever. KNowing something in theory doesn’t mean we’ll follow through in our actions; I’ve known stoves are hot for 25 years, but I still burn my fingers once a month or so!

Sad world we live in !

This is really sad. I ride my bike around mostly as opposed to walking, and I often think to myself how I should really walk more to become more intimate with my neighborhood, but the crime stories in this area make me think twice. Might a citizen crime-watch patrol in addition to the UCD guys make a difference? I feel like it would be a good idea and I’d be willing to help organize/participate. Is there one already? Have ideas like that around here been floated before?
